Adding printers to your profile

In this example, I will add the Tektronix Phaser 740 Plus printer to my profile. This printer is attached to Patience, and I am on a Windows 2000 machine where I am using my domain profile. You can add other printers by following the basic steps described below.

Bring up the Printers window. Do this by going to your start menu, hitting the Settings option, and then hitting the Printers option from the Settings submenu.

Next, double click on the Add Printer shortcut in the Printers window.

The Add Printer Wizard should pop up in a window. Hit the Next button to continue.

You will be asked whether you are adding a Local Printer or a Network Printer. Make sure that Network Printer is selected, and then hit the Next button.

Next, you will be asked for the path to the printer that you are adding. You can enter the path here, but it's easier to just browse for the network printer. To browse, just hit the Next button.

Scroll down to the machine that has the printer attached to it (Patience). Then double click on the machine name to bring down a submenu that lists the printers that it is sharing. Highlight the printer that you want to add (Tektronix Phaser 740 Plus), and then hit Next.

You will then be asked whether you want to use this as your default printer. Make your selection and then hit Next. You should make one of the black and white printers your default printer, and then use the Tektronix only when you need color.

Finally, hit the Finish button. You have successfully added a printer to your profile.
