Using Adobe Premiere 6

Launch Adobe Premiere (Start Menu -> Programs -> Pinnacle Systems DV500 -> Adobe Premiere).

After the program is launched, Premiere will ask you for new project settings (see below picture).

To bring clips into your Premiere project, go to the file menu and choose import file.

Then find the file that you just made, and hit Open. If you are looking for a file that is on the F drive (which is where video editing files should be stored), you will need to first go to the desktop to get to the F: drive.

Double-click on Shortcut to Users (F).

After hitting the Open button, the files that you selected will then show up in the Project window.

You will need to drag each file from the Project window to the Timeline Window. Alternate between putting video in the Video 2 and Video 1A tracks so that you can put transitions in between the video clips. The clips should slightly overlap each other (as in the below picture), so that transitions can be added later. The corresponding audio will show up in the Audio Tracks.

To add transitions, go to the transition window and find Pinnacle Cross Dissolve.

Then drag that into the Transition track of the Timeline window.

Double-clicking the transition symbol in the timeline will allow you to change options and make sure that the transition is going to look proper.

When you are ready to export your movie, go to the File menu, and go to the Export Timeline submenu, and choose Movie.

Choose the filename that you want to save the finished movie as, and then make sure you are saving it to the F: drive. Then hit the Settings button.

The first setting allows you to choose between different movie file types (see below picture). You want to choose between either Microsoft AVI or Pinnacle AVI. If you want the AVI file to play on any computer, choose Microsoft AVI. Choose Pinnacle AVI if the file is only going to be played on the computer with the DV500 hardware.

You also have to specify what you want to export.

You have the choice between exporting the Entire Project or just the Work Area. The work area is denoted by the in and out points, which are located in the top-most track of the timeline window (see picture below). The area between the in and out points is colored blue.

Export just the work area when you want to check transitions, or other short areas of the movie that you are making. Export the entire project when you are finished editing and are ready to render the entire movie.
