Adding a network printer to Windows 95/98

You may need your Windows 95/98 disk in order to follow the procedure here. The procedure is the same to add other printers to your Window 95/98 machine. You will need to have an account in the Biorobotics domain to add Biorobotics printers to your machine.

First, connect to Ecstatic. Do this by finding Ecstatic in "Network Neighborhood" or by typing "\\Ecstatic" in the run command.

If you are on a machine that is not part of the Biorobotics domain, you will have to log on. Do this by typing "BIOROBOTICS/username" in the username field, and then your password in the password field.

Click on the Start Menu. Then click on Settings on the Start Menu. Click on Printers in the Settings menu.

The Printers window will pop up. Double-click Add Printer.

The Add Printer Wizard will pop up. Click on the Next button.

You will then be asked whether you want to install a Network Printer or a Local Printer. Choose Network Printer and then click on the Next button.

When it asks for the network path to the printer, click on the Browse button.

Go to the Biorobotics workgroup (if you're not already there) and double click on "Ecstatic" to expand it. It should show "HPLaserJ" below Ecstatic. Click on HPLaserJ to highlight it and then click on the OK button. This will close the browse network window.

Verify that the correct network path has been chose, and then click the Next button.

You will then be asked whether you want to make this your default printer. You should use one of the black and white printers as your default printer, and only use the Tektronix Phaser 740 Plus if you need to print something in color.

You will then be asked if you want to print a test page. This isn't necessary if you have followed the directions above. Hit the Finish button. At this point, you may be asked to insert the Windows 95/98 disk.

After the driver has been installed, you are ready to print to that printer.
