Setting Up a New Account
In order to qualify for an account in the Biorobotics domain, you must either be a member of the Biorobotics Lab or in the IGERT program.
To set up a new account in the Biorobotics domain, you will need to see me. When I set up your account, I will require a picture and an email address for you (so that the personnel webpage can be updated at the same time).
I will set up your account, and then ask you to log onto one of the workstations in the domain. It will take the computer a significant amount of time to get started the first time that you log onto a machine in the domain. That is because the computer is creating your profile.
With an account on the Biorobotics domain, you will have access to all of the machines in the domain. Your profile will "roam" with you, which means that as you move from workstation to workstation, your desktop and settings, etc will be the same (and any changes that you make to your settings will be saved when you log out).
In your user directory on the domain controller, you will see a subdirectory called "profile". This, along with all of it's contents, is downloaded to the local machine every time you log on. This particular folder is limited to 30megs. The "profile" directory contains your "My Documents" folder. Your entire user directory is limited to 1 gig (including the "profile" directory). So, you should keep the majority of your files in subdirectories of your user directory other than your profile directory. All of your files will be stored in your alloted space (1 gig) on the domain controller which can be accessed through hitting the "My documents" shortcut on your desktop or in Windows Explorer. Alternatively, it can be accessed through the "users" share under Biorobots. If you are a member of the Biorobotics Lab, you will also have access to your own personal space on the Biorobots webserver, which can be accessed through the "Personnel" share.
