To help students gain an edge in industry, academia or wherever their career endeavors take them, the Division of Engineering Leadership and Professional Practice ensures that all of its programs and activities integrate various aspects of professional and personal development. Additionally, the division hosts programs focused exclusively on the development of professional skills. The Professional Development Lab for Engineers is a course taught jointly by the Case School of Engineering and the Weatherhead School of Management. It exposes students to competencies such as emotional intelligence, learning styles, leadership, teamwork and communication. Beginning in the fall of 2019, the course will be a part of the engineering core course requirements.
The division also offers various workshops on emotional intelligence, workplace etiquette, active listening, executive presence and professional communication throughout the academic year, which additionally provide students with opportunities to engage with alumni and industry representatives.
Obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) and/or a Professional Surveyor (PS) license ensures that the Engineer will adhere to the highest quality standards and ethics in their profession. Having a license increases credibility and confidence with clients.
